Registered Nurse
Stepdown / PCU RN — 12-Hour Nights | Council Bluffs, IA
Contract: 13 weeks | Start Date: September 11, 2026
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Guaranteed Hours: 36/week
About the Unit
This fast-paced Stepdown/PCU unit manages a high volume of admits and discharges daily. Patient population includes heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. RNs are expected to independently read and interpret telemetry strips and titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin. Patient care techs are available on the unit to support nursing staff.
Schedule & Expectations
- Every other weekend required
- One major and one minor holiday per contract
- Cyclic scheduling (no self-scheduling)
- Float to ICU possible if experience is applicable
Orientation
- One 12-hour department-specific orientation shift
- Required written skills exam during orientation (open book); minimum passing score of 90%
Required Certifications & Credentials
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Active RN license required at submission
- BSN required
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health–affiliated facility within the past year
- Valid driver's license required at submittal
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- All requested time off must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
