NICU Nurse – Surgical High-Acuity

Position Overview

The facility's NICU is seeking experienced nurses for a high-acuity surgical unit caring for neonates from 22 weeks gestation through infancy. You'll manage complex post-operative cases, provide pre- and post-op care, and work with patients requiring advanced respiratory support and specialized procedures.

Shift & Schedule

• 3x12-hour shifts: Variable day/night rotation or straight nights (19:00–07:00 or 07:00–19:00)
• Contract: 13 or 18 weeks
• Start dates: October 12 or November 9 only
• Weekend flexibility: Must be available to work weekends as scheduled
• Holiday commitment: Must work 2 of 3 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Maximum RTO: 6 days
• Orientation: 36 hours

Requirements

• Experience: 2 years NICU Level 4 experience required. Strong Level 3 surgical experience considered if candidate has performed surgeries on newborns.
• License: California RN license required; pending licenses accepted with ETA
• Certifications: BLS, Advanced NRP, PALS preferred
• Clinical skills: Oscillator and conventional ventilators, CPAP, specialty gases, PICC/Broviacs, UAC/UVC/PAL lines, tracheostomy and G-tube care and changes, line management with multiple drips
• Flexibility: Must float to PICU, CVICU, and satellite NICU locations as needed (mileage reimbursed)
• Transportation: Own vehicle required; free parking provided

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

HIE with cooling, congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), respiratory distress/failure, gastroschisis, omphalocele, abdominal surgeries, myelomeningoceles, fresh tracheostomies, and G-tube placements.

Vaccine Requirements

Flu vaccine required; no exemptions. COVID-19 vaccine not required.
