Psychiatric Nurse / Mental Health Technician
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (nights, 12-hour shifts)
Schedule: Four days per week
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week

About the Role
Join a psychiatric care team serving patients across multiple units with varying acuity levels and patient populations. You'll provide direct care, crisis support, and therapeutic intervention in a fast-paced inpatient setting.
Clinical Environment
The facility operates five psychiatric units:
- ADOL: Adolescents (ages 12–18)
- Serenity & VINE: Lower-acuity adults
- ITU: Higher-acuity adults with thought disorder diagnoses
- SRAD: Senior patients
Patient ratios are 8:1 for nurses and 12:1 for mental health technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess mental health status and recognize psychiatric disorders, substance use, and behavioral problems
- Develop and implement individualized care plans with measurable goals
- Administer and monitor psychiatric medications; identify side effects and adverse reactions
- Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and support for patients in acute distress
- Use therapeutic communication to build trust and rapport
- Monitor vital signs and psychological/physical symptom changes
- Float to units of greatest need as required
Requirements
- Current BLS and CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certifications required
- Strong psychiatric nursing or mental health technician background
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications
- Ability to work weekends and holidays (days off not guaranteed unless specified in contract)
- Excellent de-escalation and crisis management skills
