Medical/Surgical Travel Nurse — Critical Access Hospital | Night Shift
Location: Placerville, CA
Shift: Nights | 3×12-Hour (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Start Date: September 28, 2026
This night shift position is based in a critical access hospital setting, caring for adult and geriatric patients across varied acuity levels. The unit manages a modest daily census with a focus on medical/surgical and swing-bed rehab patients anticipated to return home within 21 days.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
- Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, ia, pancreatitis, chest pain, and UTI
- Telemetry/remote monitoring with a maximum of 2 monitored patients
- Swing-bed rehab component with interdisciplinary support from physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, and interpretation services
Required Skills
- Blood product administration, heparin, and IV insulin protocols
- Central line and PICC line management; peripheral IV starts
- High-flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, oral suctioning
- Isolation precautions/PPE, substance withdrawal management
Schedule & Coverage
- Self-scheduling
- Every 3rd to 4th weekend required
- One pre-approved time off allowed per contract
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience
- BLS and ACLS required
- Active Tennessee RN license or multistate compact license (must be in hand at submission)
- First-time travelers welcome
- Charge experience preferred; community hospital experience preferred
- COVID-19 vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Flu vaccine required (exemptions and declinations allowed)
