Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Night Shift
Shift & Schedule
7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Three 12-hour shifts per week | Every other weekend required | 13-week contract
About the Role
Join a progressive care unit managing intermediate-acuity patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and procedural needs. You'll provide direct patient care, perform EKG interpretation, manage multiple medication drips, and assist with specialized procedures in a collaborative environment supported by dedicated techs.
Clinical Scope
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms
- Manage cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips
- Support peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and chest tube insertions
- Insert and maintain NG/Dobhoff tubes; manage tube feedings
- Perform central line dressing changes and troubleshoot wound vacs
- Provide every 2-hour patient rounding and maintain communication boards
- Float between PCU units or to med-surg floors as needed
Required Qualifications
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Critical thinking and strong EKG rhythm interpretation skills
- Experience with cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips
- Peripheral IV placement skills
Preferred Experience
- Peritoneal dialysis and stroke/post-cardiac catheterization care
- Bipaps, high-flow O₂, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
- NG/Dobhoff tube and tube feeding management
Unit Culture
Self-scheduling with 4-week advance schedules. Strong teamwork, family-centered care philosophy, and high staff retention. Most travelers extend their assignments.
