Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Location: Louisville, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: October 5, 2026

About the Role

The facility's Progressive Care Unit (PCU) serves patients requiring closer monitoring than a general medical-surgical floor but not requiring full ICU-level care. You'll manage moderate-acuity patients, many transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration, in a collegial interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans using the nursing process
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) and delegate tasks appropriately
• Provide patient and family education on diagnoses, treatments, and recovery
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and interdisciplinary team members on plan of care
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based activities

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license)
• ADN or ASN; BSN preferred
• BLS certification required; ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1+ years of PCU or step-down nursing experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and collaborative skills

Preferred Qualifications

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
• Previous progressive care or step-down experience
