Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit
About the Role
The facility is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You'll provide nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than a standard medical-surgical unit but not ICU-level care. This role is ideal for an experienced nurse who thrives in a dynamic, intermediate-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Assess patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and adjust the plan of care
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families about their condition, treatment plan, and recovery
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) and maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- 1+ years of PCU or step-down unit experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) preferred
