Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Position Overview

The facility is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will provide nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but who do not require ICU-level interventions. This is a night shift position (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) for a 13-week contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, identifying and responding promptly to changes in patient condition
• Assess, manage, and care for patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) while maintaining quality care standards
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and interdisciplinary team members on the plan of care
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• Active RN license (or compact license as applicable)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 1+ years of PCU or step-down unit experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
• ADN or BSN (BSN preferred)
• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) preferred
