Medical-Surgical Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility seeks an experienced Medical-Surgical nurse for a night shift position on a busy inpatient unit. You'll provide direct patient care to adults and geriatric patients with a range of diagnoses including dementia, diabetes, ia, COPD, sepsis, GI bleed, anemia, and post-surgical recovery.

Shift & Schedule

  • 4 x 12-hour nights: 18:45 – 07:15
  • Contract: 13 weeks
  • Weekend requirement: 12–16 shifts per contract
  • Float requirement: Yes, within and near the facility

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years Med/Surg or Telemetry experience
  • BLS certification
  • Current RN license (NC or Compact)
  • EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line blood draws

Core Clinical Skills

  • Telemetry monitoring (remote and on-unit)
  • Non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula)
  • Chest tube and tracheostomy care
  • Feeding tube and colostomy management
  • Pre/post hemodialysis care
  • Blood product administration
  • Wound care and wound vac
  • Isolation precautions
  • Rapid Response Team collaboration

Preferred Experience

  • Charge nurse background
  • ABG interpretation
  • Port access and management
  • Post-cardiac surgery or post-MI care

Orientation

24-hour unit orientation with mandatory hospital orientation classes during week one. Pre-start online compliance modules required.

Additional Notes

  • You may be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Teams during catastrophic events.
  • Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only).
  • Up to 7 days pre-approved time off; no RTO during first week or after signing.
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays.
