MedSurg/Telemetry RN – Night Shift | San Luis Obispo, CA
13-Week Contract | 36 Hours Guaranteed/Week
This MedSurg/Telemetry position covers two distinct clinical areas, offering variety across surgical, orthopedic, medical, and cardiac patient populations on a busy acute care unit.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Every other weekend required (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule)
- Holidays rotated with permanent staff
- Float between the two unit areas is required
Clinical Scope
- Surgical/Ortho/Medical area: General post-surgical, orthopedic, and medical patients; heparin management
- Cardiac/Stepdown area: Post-cath, post-pacemaker, post-PCI, TAVR (day 1+), CABG (day 1+), sepsis, and respiratory distress
- Common drips: amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed-rate insulin, nitroglycerin, dopamine (renal dosing only)
- Nurses read telemetry strips; monitor tech on unit
- No ventilators; BiPAP and CPAP possible
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Hospitalist/intensivist on call after hours
Requirements
- Active RN license (CA or compact)
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- BSN not required
- Telemetry experience strongly preferred
Additional Details
- Scrub color: Navy
- Orientation: 6 hours floor-specific
- No IV team on unit; nurses manage IV needs independently
- Cancellation policy: Up to 4 shifts may be canceled over a 13-week contract
