PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Registered Nurse

Asheville, NC | Nights | 13-Week Contract

This PCU position supports a high-acuity step-down environment with a strong focus on neurological and trauma patient populations. The night shift runs 18:45–07:15, with 36 guaranteed hours per week and an every-other-weekend commitment.

Unit & Clinical Scope

The unit manages complex patients requiring neuro and spinal monitoring, trauma care, and close hemodynamic observation. Nurses perform a wide range of procedures, including:

• Neuro and spinal checks
• C-collar placement and TLSO brace management
• Chest tube and lumbar drain care
• PCA pump and IV infusion management
• Feeding tube placement
• Blood transfusions
• Tracheostomy care

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS

Required Experience

• Neuro and/or trauma care background is essential — candidates without this experience will not be considered

Floating

Float coverage may include stepdown and med-surg units.

Schedule & Dress Code

• Shift: 18:45–07:15 (nights)
• Every other weekend required
• Scrub color: Navy blue
