Medical-Surgical / Step-Down RN — Clinical Decision & Direct Admit Unit
Asheville, NC | Night Shift (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 13-Week Contract
This fast-paced Clinical Decision and Direct Admit Unit is focused on ED decompression and enhanced patient throughput. The unit's primary mission is receiving admitted patients directly from the ED, completing admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders — a process designed to reduce overall length of stay and improve the patient experience. This is not an overflow or holding unit; it functions with a distinct clinical purpose and a high-turnover environment.
Unit Details
- Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required; no call; holiday assistance expected
- Floating to other units within your skill set is expected
- Scrub color: Navy blue, white, or a combination — no t-shirts; navy or white jacket/sweater permitted
Clinical Scope
- Wide variety of diagnoses requiring a well-rounded med-surg and step-down background
- Minimal bedside procedures
- CNA support available; charge nurse coverage is the staffing goal
Required Certifications
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry (remote monitoring), and Step-Down/PCU experience
- Charge nurse experience is a plus
- Positive, team-focused attitude essential in this high-volume environment
