Surgical Specialty Unit (SSU) | Medical-Surgical | Nights | Overland Park, KS

This 13-week contract places you on a fast-paced Surgical Specialty Unit focused on post-operative care. The unit supports a diverse surgical population including colorectal, robotic, and bariatric cases, and operates at a high clinical tempo with strong team support.

Schedule

  • 4 x 12-hour night shifts (19:00–07:00)
  • Every 3rd weekend required
  • Two Mondays and two Fridays per 4-week scheduling period
  • 48 hours guaranteed per week

Clinical Scope

The unit manages post-operative patients requiring a broad range of skills, including:

  • Ostomy management and irrigation
  • NGT placement and management
  • Foley catheter placement and maintenance
  • Central line management
  • JP drain care
  • Wound management and wound vacs
  • IV starts and blood administration
  • Nutritional support including TPN and G/J tube management

Float Requirements

Candidates should be comfortable floating to similar medical/surgical and telemetry units within the facility.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–2 years of med-surg experience
  • Strong understanding of post-operative care
  • BLS required

Dress Code

Royal Blue tops; Black or Royal Blue bottoms

This is a high-acuity, team-oriented unit offering meaningful surgical nursing experience in a supportive environment.
