Surgical Specialty Unit (SSU) — Travel RN | Overland Park, KS
This 13-week night shift contract places you in a fast-paced Surgical Specialty Unit caring for post-operative patients across a range of surgical specialties, including colorectal, robotic, and bariatric surgery.
Shift & Schedule
- 4 x 12-hour nights (19:00–07:00)
- 48 hours guaranteed per week
- Every 3rd weekend required
- Two Mondays and two Fridays per 4-week scheduling period
Clinical Scope
The unit serves post-surgical patients requiring close monitoring and hands-on care. Procedures and skills used regularly include:
- Ostomy management and irrigation
- NGT placement and management
- Foley catheter placement and maintenance
- Central line management
- JP drain care
- Wound management and wound vac use
- IV starts and blood administration
- Nutritional support including TPN and G/J tube management
Float Requirements
Travelers may float to like medical/surgical and telemetry units as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Solid med-surg experience; post-operative care knowledge strongly preferred
- BLS certification required
