Medical-Surgical Nurse – 13-Week Contract

Position Overview

The facility is seeking a Medical-Surgical Nurse to join the team on an evening shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM). This is a full-time, 40-hour position with every-other-weekend and holiday rotation. The contract runs for 13 weeks.

Clinical Scope

You'll provide direct patient care on a med-surg unit, managing patients across a range of acuity levels and diagnoses. Your responsibilities include:

• Assessing, planning, and implementing individualized nursing care plans
• Administering medications and intravenous therapy per physician orders
• Monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms; initiating appropriate interventions
• Managing acute and post-operative pain using evidence-based techniques and devices
• Setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting surgical equipment (traction, feeding pumps, chest tubes, drains)
• Performing medication reconciliation and thorough documentation
• Teaching patients and families to support discharge planning and recovery
• Delegating and supervising nursing tasks as appropriate
• Identifying and reporting safety risks and unusual patient progressions

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school
• Current Massachusetts RN license
• ACLS certification required upon hire (or active BLS with ACLS obtained within 60 days)
• PALS certification preferred
• 1 year of med-surg or telemetry experience preferred

Physical Demands

• Occasional lifting/exertion of 20–50 lbs; frequent handling of 10–25 lbs
• Frequent reaching, handling, and fine-motor tasks
• Occasional stooping and kneeling
