Stepdown / PCU – Registered Nurse
Weirton, WV | 13-Week Contract | Days
This Stepdown/PCU unit manages intermediate-acuity patients across a broad range of cardiac and medical diagnoses, including post-cath lab recovery, heart failure, seizures, post-ia, and ETOH withdrawal with CIWA protocols. Nurses manage pacemakers and titrate a variety of drips in a fast-paced, well-supported environment.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Every other weekend required; holiday rotation possible
- 4-week scheduling with staff input
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Heparin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Angiomax
- Continuous cardiac monitoring; RNs are expected to read, interpret, print, and measure telemetry strips
- Troubleshoot respiratory support equipment as appropriate (Respiratory Therapy manages administration and equipment)
Team & Support
- Charge nurse on every shift; day charge typically carries no assignment
- Patient care techs on unit for ADLs, vitals, and bedside support
- Monitor techs available around the clock
- Respiratory Therapy assigned to the unit 24/7
- Nocturnist available overnight
Float & Orientation
- Travelers may float to any inpatient unit and are first to float
- Orientation: 2-day general orientation + 1 day with a preceptor
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience
- Comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drip titration
- Active BLS and ACLS certifications
- Valid RN license (must be submitted to proceed)
- Unexpired driver's license required at submission
- Any licensing history issues must be disclosed at time of submission
