Psychiatric Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility seeks a compassionate psychiatric nurse for night shift (19:00–07:00) across multiple inpatient units. This is a 13-week contract with 48 guaranteed hours per week, starting December 14, 2026.

About the Role

You'll provide direct patient care and crisis support across diverse psychiatric units serving adolescents (ages 12–18), adults, and seniors. Units range from lower-acuity to higher-acuity settings, with patients presenting thought disorders, behavioral health challenges, and acute psychiatric needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess mental health status and recognize signs of psychiatric disorders and behavioral concerns
  • Develop individualized care plans based on patient needs and treatment goals
  • Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions
  • Respond to patients in crisis using de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication
  • Monitor vital signs, mental status changes, and medication effects
  • Build trust through active listening and empathy
  • Uphold ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Always, Respect) and AIDET communication practices

Requirements

  • Current BLS and CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certifications required
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays (days off not guaranteed)
  • Float flexibility to areas of greatest need
