RN – Medical-Surgical Unit, 12-Hour Nights
Position Overview
Join the medical-surgical nursing team for a 13-week contract working 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM). You'll be part of a collaborative unit providing care to diverse patient populations across two connected floors.
Unit Details
The facility's medical-surgical units care for post-surgical and orthopedic patients, as well as those with medical conditions including ia, dialysis needs, palliative care, hospice, and end-of-life support. Low-volume inpatient chemotherapy is also managed on this unit. COVID patients are housed in designated areas; you may be assigned to both isolation and non-isolation patients during your shift.
Clinical Scope
- Manage heparin and comfort-measure medications
- Work alongside respiratory therapy for Bipap, CPAP, and high-flow support
- Remote telemetry monitoring (monitored from a central station)
- No cardiac drips or bedside monitor management
Staffing & Support
- Resource nurse on nights takes a full patient assignment
- One-shift floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
- Float assignments limited to other medical-surgical units only
- No CNAs on night shifts
Schedule Requirements
- Every-other-weekend (Saturday/Sunday) rotations required
- Two additional Fridays per 13-week schedule
- Many staff group Friday with weekend shifts for consecutive days off
- Participate in permanent staff holiday rotation
- Flexible, self-directed scheduling within unit needs
Requirements
- Current RN license
- BLS certification required
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Must be comfortable working with both isolation and standard patients
