Surgical Specialty Unit (SSU) | Medical-Surgical | Overland Park, KS

This fast-paced Surgical Specialty Unit focuses on post-operative care across a range of surgical specialties, including colorectal, robotic, and bariatric surgery. The unit supports a high-acuity patient population requiring close monitoring and skilled procedural management.

Shift & Schedule

• 4 x 12-hour day shifts (07:00–19:00)
• 13-week contract with 48 hours guaranteed per week
• Target start: December 14
• Every 3rd weekend required
• Two Mondays and two Fridays per 4-week scheduling period

Clinical Scope

Nurses on this unit perform and manage:

• Ostomy care and irrigation
• NGT placement and management
• Foley catheter placement and maintenance
• Central line management
• JP drain care
• Wound management and wound vac therapy
• IV starts and blood administration
• Nutritional support including TPN and G/J tube management

Float Requirements

Floating may occur to similar medical/surgical and telemetry units within the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS certification
• Solid med-surg background required
• Post-operative care experience strongly preferred
