Operating Room Nurse

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Operating Room Nurse to join the surgical services team on a 13-week contract. You'll work 4 x 10-hour day shifts with call rotation responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technicians to ensure optimal patient safety and care during surgical procedures
• Maintain sterile fields and oversee preparation, handling, and sterilization of supplies, instruments, and equipment
• Verify patient identity, consent forms, operative procedure, and surgical site prior to OR entry
• Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts; notify the surgeon of results
• Identify, label, and handle specimens and cultures per established protocol
• Assess and manage patient pain; document pain levels and medication effectiveness
• Administer medications and intravenous therapy per physician orders and protocols
• Provide thorough, timely documentation of all interventions and patient responses
• Communicate clearly with the surgical team to ensure continuity of care
• Identify and report safety risks and opportunities to reduce errors

Requirements

• Current Massachusetts RN license
• ACLS certification upon hire (or active BLS with ACLS obtained within 60 days of start)
• OR nursing experience required; CNOR strongly preferred
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
• Excellent communication and multitasking skills
• Professional, collaborative approach to patient care
