Social Worker – Emergency Department

Position Overview

Join the facility's Emergency Department as a Master Social Worker. You'll provide comprehensive social work assessments and interventions for inpatients, outpatients, and ED patients in a fast-paced acute care setting. This role is primarily ED-based but includes float responsibilities to other hospital units as needed.

Shift & Schedule

  • 8-hour days: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Every other weekend (EOW), including Saturdays
  • First to float requirement
  • 40 guaranteed hours per week
  • 15-week contract
  • Holiday rotation with staff

Patient Volume & Clinical Scope

You'll see 5–8 patients/consults daily. Responsibilities include:

  • Crisis intervention and brief counseling
  • Comprehensive assessments and treatment plan development addressing medical, social, and resource issues
  • Post-acute placement coordination for complex discharges
  • Financial and community resource referrals for high-risk patients
  • Facilitation of family/healthcare team meetings
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary care teams
  • Hospital committee participation and in-service presentations

Requirements

  • Master's degree from a Council of Social Work Education–accredited program
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical and/or medical social work experience
  • BLS and MSW certifications required
  • 5150 certification (must be obtained at county level)
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment
  • Post-offer, pre-employment background check and drug screen required
