Social Worker – Emergency Department
Position Overview
Join the facility's Emergency Department as a Master Social Worker. You'll provide comprehensive social work assessments and interventions for inpatients, outpatients, and ED patients in a fast-paced acute care setting. This role is primarily ED-based but includes float responsibilities to other hospital units as needed.
Shift & Schedule
- 8-hour days: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Every other weekend (EOW), including Saturdays
- First to float requirement
- 40 guaranteed hours per week
- 15-week contract
- Holiday rotation with staff
Patient Volume & Clinical Scope
You'll see 5–8 patients/consults daily. Responsibilities include:
- Crisis intervention and brief counseling
- Comprehensive assessments and treatment plan development addressing medical, social, and resource issues
- Post-acute placement coordination for complex discharges
- Financial and community resource referrals for high-risk patients
- Facilitation of family/healthcare team meetings
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary care teams
- Hospital committee participation and in-service presentations
Requirements
- Master's degree from a Council of Social Work Education–accredited program
- Minimum 2 years of clinical and/or medical social work experience
- BLS and MSW certifications required
- 5150 certification (must be obtained at county level)
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment
- Post-offer, pre-employment background check and drug screen required
Important: Prior recent experience in California is required for consideration.
