Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN — Night Shift | Wilmington, NC

This 13-week contract (extensions available up to 26 weeks) places you on a busy Med-Surg Telemetry unit managing adult and geriatric patients with a wide range of acute and chronic diagnoses.

Shift Details

  • Nights: 18:45–07:15 | 3×12-hour shifts per week (36 or 48 hours accepted)
  • Every-other-weekend requirement
  • No on-call requirement
  • Self-scheduling

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

The unit cares for adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including diabetes, dementia, COPD, ia, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, encephalopathy, renal failure, anemia, cellulitis, UTI, hip fracture, and general surgical recovery. Nurses interpret and manage dysrhythmias, provide telemetry monitoring, and actively participate in Rapid Response and Code teams.

Required Skills & Certifications

  • BLS and NIHSS (required)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg/Tele experience
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • IV therapy, PICC line management, central line blood draws, phlebotomy
  • Blood product administration; heparin, insulin, and PCA management
  • Non-invasive airway management (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, oral suctioning)
  • Wound care including wound vac; feeding tube and colostomy/ileostomy care
  • Pre/post hemodialysis management; chest tube management

Preferred

  • ACLS; on-unit telemetry monitoring
  • Post-MI, post-angiogram, or post-cardiac surgery experience
  • CBI, bariatric surgery, substance withdrawal, tracheostomy care
  • Prior charge nurse experience; community hospital background

Additional Details

  • Float: Candidates must be open to floating to a nearby campus
  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • RTO: Up to 7 days maximum; holidays not eligible for RTO
  • Storm/Hurricane Team participation required
  • NC or compact license accepted; first-time travelers welcome
  • Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
