PCU / Stepdown

PCU / Step-Down RN — Night Shift | Rochester, NY | 13-Week Contract

This Progressive Care Unit cares for an adult and geriatric population with high-acuity, nursing-intensive needs. Common diagnoses include DKA, sepsis, ETOH withdrawal, and acute respiratory compromise requiring BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and ventilator/trach management.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3×12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Float required within Med/Surg

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks | Start: November 2, 2026
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
• First-time travelers welcome

Required Certifications

• ACLS and BLS (current)
• Active New York RN license required prior to submission

Required Skills & Competencies

• Phlebotomy and IV insertion (mandatory unit competency)
• Central line, PICC, and peripheral line care
• Telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
• Heparin and IV insulin protocols, including insulin drip titration
• Blood product administration
• Tracheostomy and feeding tube care
• Wound care / wound vac
• PCA pump and infusion pump management
• Non-invasive airway management (BiPAP, HFNC)

Additional Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of PCU/step-down or med/surg experience
• Charting system proficiency is required (equivalent to enterprise EHR platforms)
• Pre-start modules required; up to 5 hours are compensable
• Background reviewed on a case-by-case basis
