PCU / Stepdown

Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) | Rochester, NY

Night Shift | 8-Week Contract

This PCU position supports a step-down level of care for adults and geriatric patients, including long-term pulmonary cases, ENT surgery, and a variety of surgical patients requiring intermediate-level monitoring and management.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3×12-hour shifts
• Contract length: 8 weeks
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required, as needed
• RTO requests must be submitted at time of candidate submission (no more than 10 days)

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Active New York single-state RN license (must be in hand at submission; NY is not a compact state)
• ACLS, BLS, and valid NIHSS required

Clinical Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of RN experience; travel experience required
• Telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC)
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Cardiac drip management (no titration)
• Blood product administration
• Central line and peripheral line care/management
• Non-invasive airway management and oxygen administration
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and isolation precautions
• Familiarity with Rapid Response and Code team protocols
• Prior charge experience preferred

Unit Details

• Patient population: Adults and geriatrics
• Floating required within skillset
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy blue and white
• 16-hour orientation
• Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, physical therapy, and rapid response teams

Additional Notes

• Candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are not eligible
• First-time travelers accepted
