Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) — Registered Nurse
Morgantown, WV | 13-Week Contract | Nights
This opportunity is on a combined Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit caring for higher-acuity neurological patients. The unit manages complex conditions including stroke, seizures, craniotomies, and external ventricular drains (EVD experience preferred). Post-TPA patients are managed by permanent staff.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, three shifts per week
- Every other weekend or two weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday rotation required; schedule flexibility expected
Clinical Details
- Stepdown patients require strong neuroscience assessment skills and familiarity with stroke protocols
- Titratable drips may include amiodarone, cardizem, nitro, dopamine, nipride, ketamine, and insulin — ordered and guided by physician protocol
- Telemetry monitoring is present; RNs are not required to read strips
- Respiratory therapy is available around the clock; vent management is handled by RT and physicians
- Charge nurse support available 24/7; nurse aides present each shift
Requirements
- Active RN license
- BLS and NIHSS certification required (NIHSS must be in hand at submission)
- ACLS preferred
- Strong neuro background with demonstrated stroke patient care experience
- COVID vaccination required
Contract Details
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
- Cancellation policy: 2 shifts per contract
- Orientation: 2 shifts on unit
- Float possibility to nearby med-surg/neuro floors
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Address must be 50+ miles from the facility
