Pathologists Assistant – Surgical Pathology

Position Overview

The facility is seeking a New York State–licensed Pathologists Assistant to cover a four-month assignment in surgical pathology. This is a Monday–Friday, day-shift role with no weekends or on-call requirements.

Shift & Duration

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Contract: 16 weeks
• Start Date: January 4, 2027

Clinical Scope

You'll work in a busy surgical pathology laboratory managing approximately 200 blocks daily. Your responsibilities include:

• Cutting and staining frozen sections
• Gross examination and dissection of large and complex specimens (breast resections, uterus, lung, and colon resections)
• Gross examination and dissection of small biopsies
• Triaging fresh tissue for lymphoma work-ups
• Identifying glomeruli in medical renal cores
• Macroscopic description of gross anatomic features
• Preparing tissues for histological processing
• Obtaining biological samples for flow cytometry
• Reviewing patient clinical information (scans, X-rays, lab results)

You'll collaborate with 4 pathologists and 6 histotechs in a supportive, collegial environment.

Requirements

• New York State Pathologists Assistant license (required at submission)
• ASCP-PA certification
• Minimum 2 years experience in hospital clinical laboratory
• Travel experience preferred

Note

Permanent residence must be beyond 50 miles from the specified region. Candidates will float within the hospital as needed based on skill set.
