Stepdown (SDU) Nurse – 7 PM–7 AM

About the Role
The facility is seeking an experienced RN for its stepdown unit. You'll care for moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of deterioration—those requiring closer monitoring than a medical-surgical unit but not intensive care. This is a night shift position with a typical patient load of 3–4 patients per assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications, including IV drips, per physician orders
- Assess and manage patients at risk of clinical decline
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the care team on the plan of care
- Educate patients and families about their condition, treatment, and recovery
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active RN license in Alabama (or compact license)
- 2+ years of recent stepdown or telemetry experience required
- BLS and ACLS certification (required)
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- PCCN certification preferred
- Travel nursing experience required
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient care
