Medical-Surgical Nurse – 16-Week Contract

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 16 weeks

Start Date: September 28, 2026

About the Role

The facility is seeking a Medical-Surgical Nurse to join its med-surg unit. You'll provide comprehensive care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions, managing diverse patient acuity levels and diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition; escalate care as needed
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
• Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge coordination
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Typical patient load: 4–6 patients per shift

Requirements

• Active RN license in state (or compact license as applicable)
• 1+ years of med-surg nursing experience required; 2+ years of travel experience preferred
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN (Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse) preferred
• Ability to manage diverse patient caseloads and varying acuity levels
