OR Nurse – 16-Week Contract
Location: Birmingham, AL
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
On-call: 3 weeknights and 1 weekend day per month; 1 major and 1 minor holiday coverage required
Contract Duration: 16 weeks
Start Date: September 28, 2026
About the Role
The facility's main operating room is seeking an experienced OR nurse to provide circulating and scrub support across a wide range of surgical specialties, including general surgery, orthopedic, neurosurgery, vascular, urology, GYN, ENT, and plastics. You'll manage sterile fields, coordinate with surgical teams, and ensure seamless case flow in a dynamic surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Circulate and/or scrub cases across multiple surgical specialties
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, and equipment
- Perform pre-operative assessments, verify surgical site and consent per protocol
- Execute accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts
- Monitor patient safety throughout procedures
- Manage supplies and equipment inventory
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the surgical team
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and post-operative handoff
- Document intraoperative care accurately
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- CNOR certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years recent OR experience
- Experience with da Vinci XI systems preferred
- Ability to function flexibly in both circulating and scrub roles
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
