Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry

Location: Lexington, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 x 12-hour shifts; weekends and holidays as needed)

Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: October 5, 2026

About the Role

You will provide comprehensive nursing care on a medical-surgical/telemetry unit serving adult patients with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including cardiac, surgical, respiratory, and diabetes-related diagnoses. This role offers clinical autonomy within your scope of practice and the opportunity to work as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on patient-centered healing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform continuous cardiac monitoring with arrhythmia recognition and EKG interpretation
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, identify risk factors, and develop individualized care plans
  • Administer medications and treatments, including cardiac drips, per physician orders
  • Manage pre- and post-operative patients, including wound care and pain management
  • Monitor vital signs and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, case managers, and the care team on discharge planning
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record
  • Adhere to infection control and fall prevention protocols
  • Typically manage 4–6 patients per shift, depending on acuity

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
  • ADN or ASN (BSN preferred)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • 1+ years of medical-surgical or telemetry nursing experience
  • Demonstrated telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and collaborative skills
  • Ability to assess and manage age-specific patient safety needs
