Medical-Surgical Nurse — 13-Week Contract

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Unit: 6 West Medical-Surgical

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: September 28, 2026

About the Role

Join the medical-surgical unit at the facility, where you'll provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical diagnoses. This is a fast-paced environment managing diverse patient populations and acuity levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition; escalate care as needed
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
• Care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
• Coordinate with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams on care planning and discharge
• Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions
• Document assessments and interventions accurately in the EMR
• Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• Minimum 1+ year of medical-surgical nursing experience
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN certification preferred
• Ability to manage diverse patient caseloads with varying diagnoses and acuity
