Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 18 weeks

About the Role

The facility is seeking an experienced RN for its medical-surgical unit. You'll provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a diverse range of medical and surgical conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, and diabetes management. Your responsibilities will include patient assessment and monitoring, medication and treatment administration, pre- and post-operative care, wound management, and pain control. You'll collaborate with physicians, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care coordination and discharge planning, while educating patients and families on treatments and discharge instructions.

Requirements

• Active RN license in state of practice (compact license acceptable)
• Minimum 1+ years of medical-surgical nursing experience
• 2 years of travel nursing experience required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN (Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse) preferred
• Ability to manage a diverse patient caseload with varying acuity levels

Key Expectations

• Manage 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)
• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition
• Document accurately in the medical record
• Ensure infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Night shift availability required
