Stepdown/Telemetry Nurse – Birmingham, AL
Position Overview
The facility is seeking experienced Stepdown/Telemetry nurses for its Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit. This role bridges the gap between intensive care and medical-surgical nursing, caring for patients who require closer monitoring than a standard med-surg floor but do not yet need ICU-level intervention.
Schedule & Duration
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 3 x 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours)
- 18-week contract
- Every other weekend and select holidays required
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond to changes in patient condition
- Manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on plan of care
- Educate patients and families on condition and recovery
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients)
- Maintain accurate documentation and infection control/fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1+ years of stepdown or telemetry experience
- Minimum 2 years' specialty experience and travel nursing experience
- PCCN certification preferred
- Current resume and confirmed availability required before submission
