Medical-Surgical Nurse – 16-Week Assignment

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 16 weeks

Start Date: September 28, 2026

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced RN for its Medical-Surgical unit. You'll provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with diverse medical and surgical diagnoses, managing pre- and post-operative care, chronic disease management, and acute conditions including cardiac, respiratory, and diabetic patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients; respond to condition changes and escalate care as appropriate
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Manage wound care, pain management, and post-operative recovery
• Coordinate care and discharge planning with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams
• Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record
• Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift
• Follow infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• Minimum 1+ years of Med-Surg nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN certification preferred
