Medical-Surgical Nurse – 16-Week Travel Assignment

Location: Birmingham, AL

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 16 weeks

Start Date: September 28, 2026

About the Role

The facility is seeking an experienced RN for a medical-surgical unit serving adult patients with diverse diagnoses and acuity levels. You'll manage pre- and post-operative care, provide comprehensive assessments, coordinate treatment plans with interdisciplinary teams, and educate patients and families on discharge instructions.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications and manage wound care and pain management for surgical patients
• Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory diagnoses)
• Collaborate with physicians and case managers on care planning and discharge
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Manage a typical caseload of 4–6 patients per shift

Requirements

• Active RN license in state of practice (or compact license as applicable)
• 2+ years of medical-surgical nursing experience
• Travel nursing experience required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN certification preferred
