Physical Therapist Assistant – Acute Inpatient

Shift: Tuesday–Saturday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (day shift)

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: October 5, 2026

Location: Petaluma, CA area

The Role

You'll provide physical therapy services in an acute inpatient setting, working primarily with hospitalist and medical-surgical referrals. Patient populations include adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients with diagnoses spanning orthopedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary conditions, and post-operative rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities:

• Patient evaluation, treatment planning, and discharge coordination
• Gait training, transfer assistance, and mobility instruction
• Therapeutic modalities (e-stim, manual therapy, heat/cold)
• Home exercise program education and family engagement
• Vital sign monitoring and patient safety assessment

On Saturdays, you will be the sole therapist on the acute unit, requiring strong time management and independent decision-making skills.

Requirements

• License: California state PT/PTA license (compact license acceptable; must be in hand at submission)
• Certification: BLS and Manual Therapy certification
• Experience: Minimum 1 year acute care experience required; 2+ years preferred
• Skills: Lifting/transfer techniques, patient mobility assessment, and ability to work independently

Key Expectations

• Must commit to working 3 of 5 holiday shifts (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront during the application process
• May be asked to float to nearby sister facilities within a 50-mile radius
• Two professional references required (covering 1 year within the last 3 years)
