Neuro-Surgical Med/Surg RN — Night Shift | Wilmington, NC
This 13-week travel contract (with potential extension to 26 weeks) places you on a neuro-surgical unit caring for adult patients with neurological diagnoses and post-operative neurosurgical needs. Common clinical scenarios include CVA management, pre- and post-neurosurgery care, telemetry monitoring, heparin and insulin drip management, and wound/drain care.
Shift & Schedule
- Nights: 18:45–07:15 | 3×12-hour shifts
- 12–16 weekend shifts per contract (unit is flexible and open to discussion)
- Float requirement: yes — must be open to floating within the facility
- RTO: up to 7 days, pre-approved; no RTO during the first week; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- BLS required
- ACLS and NIHSS preferred
- Neuro experience preferred; charge experience a plus
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- NC or Compact RN license (pending accepted for submission)
Clinical Skills
Dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, peripheral line placement and care, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, surgical drain management, telemetry, and wound/wound vac care.
Additional Details
- Scrubs: Navy
- Orientation: 2 unit-based orientation shifts following hospital orientation
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered); COVID-19 vaccine not required
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
Interdisciplinary support includes rapid response teams, pharmacy, respiratory services, physical therapy, IV teams, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, and more.
