Cardiovascular Progressive Care (PCU) — Asheville, NC
Days | 12-Hour Shift (06:45–19:15) | 13-Week Contract | 36 Guaranteed Hours/Week
This Cardiovascular Progressive Care unit specializes in post-surgical stepdown care for a complex, high-acuity patient population. Primary patients include those recovering from open-heart surgery (CABG, valve replacements, TAVR, Bentall procedure), thoracic surgeries (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, open and endovascular AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomy. The unit also receives overflow medical cardiology patients presenting with heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block.
Typical Procedures:
- Epidural and chest tube management
- Tube feedings and IV glucocommander
- Cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, amiodarone, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine, and others)
Requirements:
- Active RN license
- ACLS and BLS required
- Stepdown and telemetry experience required
- Prior CV surgery or vascular surgery population experience strongly preferred (within the past year)
- CVICU background a plus
Additional Details:
- Float may be required to other stepdown, medical-surgical, or inpatient ER holding units
- Weekend commitment: minimum 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 6-week scheduling period; holiday flexibility expected
- No on-call required
- Dress code: all navy, white tops/navy bottoms, or all white
