Surgical Center RN – State College, PA

Position Overview

The facility is seeking a registered nurse for its surgical center. This is a 13-week contract position.

Shift & Schedule

• 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday
• Variable start times between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM
• No weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements

Clinical Responsibilities

You'll support patients across the perioperative continuum:

• Pre-operative: Assess physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs; advocate for patients; transcribe and implement physician orders; verify surgical site marking and pre-procedure checklist completion.
• Intra-operative: Assist in pain management and eye laser procedure rooms; support anesthesia setup, including nerve blocks; maintain awareness of emergency medications and equipment locations.
• Post-operative (PACU): Monitor airway patency and vital signs; manage post-operative pain; collaborate with surgeons and anesthesiologists; assess discharge readiness using established criteria.
• General duties: Float support across all areas; relieve staff for breaks; coordinate patient transfers; document accurately and timely; educate patients and families; manage supplies cost-effectively.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• Proficiency with IV therapy, diagnostic interpretation (labs, radiology, EKGs), and electronic documentation
• Strong communication and critical thinking skills
• Flexibility to work across multiple procedure areas
