Med-Surg/Telemetry RN — Night Shift | Greensboro, NC
13-Week Contract | Nights 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | 3x12s
This Med-Surg/Telemetry unit primarily serves a general medical-surgical population, though all RNs must be tele-capable and pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding. The unit cares for adult and geriatric patients and maintains a structured, stable care environment.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
- Observation, general medical-surgical, and surgical patients
- Respiratory conditions (oxygen management up to 6L NC or facemask; trach collar ≤40%)
- Diabetes management, including newly diagnosed and complicated cases
- Palliative, end-of-life, and hospice patients
- Psychiatric observation
- Hemodynamically stable patients; no cardiac drips (heparin, antibiotics, and palliative IV medications accepted)
Required Skills
- EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management
- BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management
- Central/PICC line access and management
- Blood product administration, wound care/wound vac
- Telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), heparin drip management
- Chest tubes, CBI, surgical drains, feeding tube care
Schedule & Expectations
- Nights, every other weekend; holidays as needed
- Float required across system campuses as needed
- Patient ratio: 6:1 nights
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years RN experience required; first-time travelers welcome
- Active RN license in hand at time of submission
- BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS preferred
- EKG exam required during onboarding (2 attempts allowed)
- Electronic health record experience required
- No local candidates within 50 miles
- COVID-19 and flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Previous charge RN experience preferred
