Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Elizabethtown, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3 days per week (weekend and holiday rotation)

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: September 28, 2026

About the Role

Join the progressive care team at the facility, where you'll provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients who require closer monitoring than general medical-surgical units but do not require intensive care. You'll work with patients transitioning from ICU, those at risk of clinical deterioration, and individuals with complex medical needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform continuous cardiac monitoring and vital sign assessment, identifying and responding promptly to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, including select IV therapies, per physician orders
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments using the nursing process; develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) with attention to age-specific and cultural considerations
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery expectations
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record
• Implement infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and care team members to optimize patient outcomes

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
• ADN or ASN (BSN preferred)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1+ years of PCU or step-down unit experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and clinical assessment skills

Preferred Qualifications

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
• BSN degree
