Labor & Delivery / Postpartum Nurse – Night Shift
Position Overview
Join the labor & delivery and postpartum team on a 12-hour night shift (7 PM–7 AM). This is a 13-week contract with every-other-weekend rotation and first-to-float responsibilities.
Clinical Scope
You'll care for laboring patients, antepartum cases, and postpartum couplets across a busy obstetric unit. Patient populations include high-risk pregnancies, pre-eclampsia, substance-use disorders, insulin-dependent diabetics, and deliveries at any gestational age. You'll manage laboring patients at a 2:1 ratio and postpartum couplet care at a 1:4 ratio, following AWOHNN guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct labor and delivery nursing care, including fetal monitoring and labor support
- Circulate for cesarean sections; scrubbing experience is preferred but not required
- Float to postpartum as needed (postpartum staff do not float to L&D)
- Collaborate with charge nurses, OB technicians, and on-call obstetric providers
- 24/7 access to respiratory therapy and pharmacy support
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license (California)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWOHNN certification)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- C-section circulation experience
Schedule & Logistics
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Scrubs: Navy (postpartum) or provided seal blue (L&D)
- 3-shift floor-specific orientation
- No mandatory on-call; may be on standby
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
