Medical/Surgical RN – Night Shift | Wilmington, NC
13-Week Contract | 4x12 Nights (18:45–07:15)
This Med/Surg unit cares for an adult and geriatric patient population with a general medical-surgical acuity level. No PCU-level patients are assigned to this unit. Clinical responsibilities include heparin drip management, wound vac dressing changes, high-flow oxygen, and occasional short-term BiPAP support with respiratory backup — no additional training required for BiPAP.
Shift & Scheduling
- Four 12-hour nights per week; 36 or 48 hours accepted
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday availability required; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Call required if placed on a pre-scheduled on-call shift
- Floating to similar units and alternate care locations is expected
Contract Details
- Duration: 13 weeks (extensions up to 26 weeks considered)
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Monthly unit team meetings required; night shift staff attend a follow-up Friday morning session
- Staff are assigned to an Inclement Weather/Storm Team and may be required to work during declared emergencies or disaster events
- Scrubs: Navy (not provided)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience
- BLS certification
- Must pass EKG/dysrhythmia testing prior to start
- NC or compact RN license (pending accepted at submission)
Preferred Qualifications
- Charge nurse experience (preferred for night travelers)
- CPI certification
Key Skills
- Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation
- IV insertion and peripheral line management
- Wound care/wound vac, surgical drains
- Non-invasive airway management (BiPAP/CPAP)
- SBAR communication
