NICU Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced NICU Respiratory Therapist to provide specialized respiratory care to critically ill and premature neonates in a high-acuity setting. You'll work independently managing complex respiratory cases, from extremely low-birth-weight infants to patients requiring advanced mechanical ventilation and therapeutic cooling.
Shift & Contract Details
- Schedule: 4 x 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed hours: 48 per week
Experience Required
- Minimum 3–4 years of recent Level III NICU respiratory therapy experience
- Demonstrated competence with high-acuity, critically ill neonates
- Hands-on experience with therapeutic cooling/hypothermia protocols
- Proficiency with conventional and high-frequency ventilation (HFOV/HFJV)
- Strong background with premature and extremely low-birth-weight infants
- Travel experience preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation; adjust support based on blood gases and patient status
- Operate CPAP, BiPAP/NIPPV, high-flow nasal cannula, and oxygen therapy
- Assist with intubation, extubation, airway management, and emergency stabilization
- Obtain and interpret blood gases (arterial, capillary, venous)
- Administer respiratory medications, aerosol treatments, and surfactant
- Provide respiratory support for neonates undergoing therapeutic cooling
- Participate in neonatal resuscitation and high-risk deliveries
- Respond rapidly to respiratory deterioration and emergencies
- Maintain and troubleshoot ventilator and respiratory equipment
- Collaborate with neonatologists, nurses, and the care team
- Document treatments and patient responses accurately
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active state Respiratory Therapist license
- RRT credential preferred
- BLS and NRP certifications
