Labor & Delivery Nurse
Position Overview
Join the facility's Labor & Delivery unit as a night-shift nurse. You'll provide comprehensive care to mothers and newborns in a fast-paced, family-centered environment. This is an 8-week contract position.
Shift & Schedule
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- No on-call requirements
- No weekend call obligations
Key Responsibilities
- Perform head-to-toe assessments and ongoing reassessments of laboring patients and postpartum mothers
- Assess and manage pain using appropriate techniques; educate patients and families on pain management options
- Develop, implement, and revise individualized care plans based on patient response and clinical need
- Administer medications safely, following the five rights of medication administration
- Provide age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care addressing psychosocial and spiritual needs
- Create and evaluate patient and family teaching plans
- Operate medical equipment safely and competently
- Communicate effectively with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and hospital administration
- Maintain comprehensive, timely documentation
- Demonstrate flexibility and strong organizational skills in a dynamic clinical setting
- Complete and maintain annual competencies, including bedside blood glucose testing
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year of Labor & Delivery experience
- Postpartum and nursery experience
- ACLS (AHA) certification — active at start
- BLS (AHA) certification — active at start
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification — active at start
- Active Ohio or compact state nursing license
- Current skills checklist (within 1 year)
Preferred
- BSN degree
