Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Schedule: Every other weekend (overflow unit)

Contract Duration: 14 weeks

Location: Louisville, KY

About the Role

The facility's Progressive Care Unit serves patients who require closer monitoring than a traditional medical-surgical floor but are not ICU-level acute. You'll manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) including those transitioning from ICU care, at-risk patients, and those on telemetry monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring; make sound independent clinical decisions
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; respond to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, including select IV infusions, per physician orders
• Assess and manage patients at risk of clinical deterioration
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team on plan of care
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment, and recovery
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Support infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Mentor and precept nursing staff as appropriate

Requirements

• Active RN license (or compact license as applicable)
• Minimum 2 years acute care inpatient nursing experience
• 1+ years Progressive Care Unit or step-down experience
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma; BSN preferred
• Telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management experience

Preferred Qualifications

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
• BSN degree
