Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Registered Nurse
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced RN for its Progressive Care Unit. You'll provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients who require closer monitoring than a medical-surgical unit but do not require ICU-level care. This includes patients transitioning from ICU, those on telemetry monitoring, and patients at risk of clinical deterioration.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Assess patients, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate responses to interventions
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and interdisciplinary teams on patient care plans
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) per unit acuity guidelines
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Support team-based care and quality improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in nursing
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification
- Minimum 2 years acute care RN experience
- 1+ year PCU or step-down unit experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- Proficiency with electronic health records
Schedule
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- 13-week contract
- Start date: September 27, 2026
