Stepdown/Telemetry Nurse – Birmingham, AL

Position Overview

The facility seeks an experienced RN for its Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit. You'll provide skilled nursing care to patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration, managing moderate-acuity cardiac and post-operative cases requiring continuous monitoring.

Shift Details

  • 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
  • 14-week contract
  • Every other weekend; select holidays as scheduled
  • Start date: September 21, 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to rhythm changes and clinical deterioration
  • Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients)
  • Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
  • Assess and manage patients transitioning from higher levels of care
  • Respond to rapid response and code interventions
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on plan of care
  • Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
  • Maintain accurate documentation and infection control/fall prevention protocols

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license (state or compact)
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Minimum 1+ years stepdown/telemetry experience
  • Minimum 2 years specialty experience and prior travel nursing experience
  • BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
  • PCCN certification preferred
