Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel Nurse
Hermitage, TN | 13-Week Contract | Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
This PCU opportunity offers a collaborative, high-acuity step-down environment known for a strong team culture and a high traveler return rate. The unit manages a diverse cardiac and medical patient population, including stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care.
Schedule
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling with 4-week schedule blocks
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
Clinical Scope
Nurses on this unit manage complex drips (cardiac, heparin, insulin), multiple oxygen delivery systems (BiPAP, high-flow O2), and peritoneal dialysis. Procedures performed on the unit include thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, Dobhoff/NG tube insertions, central line dressing changes, and wound vac troubleshooting. Tube feeding management is also required.
Required Skills & Certifications
- BLS and ACLS (required)
- EKG rhythm interpretation
- Experience with cardiac, insulin, and heparin drips
- Experience with BiPAP and multiple oxygen delivery systems
- Stroke and post-cardiac cath care experience
- Peripheral IV skills
- Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred
Float Requirements
May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors.
Patient Rounding
Hourly rounding on days; every-two-hour rounding on nights. AIDET communication standards and communication board maintenance required.
Dress Code: Black scrubs
Unit Support: Dedicated patient care techs available on the unit to assist with patient care needs.
