Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Night Shift
Position Overview
Join a dynamic progressive care unit offering both acute care and stepdown nursing in a supportive environment. This is an excellent opportunity to build critical care skills or transition into ICU-level practice.
Shift & Schedule
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 guaranteed hours per week
- 13-week contract
- Weekend shifts required
- Experienced nurses may float after orientation
Unit Details
You'll care for acute care and neuro stepdown patients in a collaborative setting with strong physician and team support. The unit manages stroke protocols, cardiac monitoring, and post-procedural patients.
Clinical Scope
- Acute Care: High-flow oxygen, chest tubes, stroke protocols, vasoactive drips, vital sign monitoring
- Neuro Stepdown: Tracheostomy care, non-invasive ventilation, cardiac drip titration
- Common procedures: Lumbar punctures, chest tube placement
Patient Ratios
Staffing Support
- 1 charge RN overseeing the unit
- 1–2 patient care techs
- 1 unit secretary
Requirements
- BLS (acute care); BLS + ACLS (neuro stepdown)
- Strong acute care nursing skills and time management
- Stepdown experience preferred
- Critical thinking and clinical judgment essential
Patient Experience
- Bedside shift reporting
- Daily huddles and rounds
- Focus on personal patient connections
Dress Code
Black, blue, or grey scrubs (any color Friday)
