Telemetry/Medical-Surgical Nurse
Unit Overview
Join a telemetry unit that cares for complex adult patients across medical, surgical, and cardiac diagnoses. You'll manage patients with conditions such as CHF, stroke, ESRD, and post-operative recovery, many transitioning from ICU, emergency department, or PACU. This is a fast-paced environment requiring strong assessment skills and cardiac monitoring expertise.
What You'll Do
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with diverse medical and surgical needs
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, responding to changes in real time
- Administer medications and cardiac drips per physician orders
- Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
- Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and the care team on treatment plans and discharge planning
- Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, and discharge instructions
- Document assessments and interventions in the EMR
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Typical patient load: 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- 1+ years of medical-surgical telemetry experience
- Telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
- NIHSS and annual dysrhythmia competency validation within 6 months of start
